And the fight my students undertook against the State University of New York to save their college, which was flippantly closed mid-semester in April 2010. These brave young men and women took to the streets and made sure their voices were heard across Long Island and it was my privilege to record them, interview them and give my own video diary of the experience, which we used to explore argument and persuasion techniques. This is the culminating moment and metaphor of our campus being closed though; my students participated in a fundraiser for amputees in Haiti and raised close to $5,000.00 in one night and did for others what the State University of New York would not even consider doing for them–helping them continue their education on the campus they had created and fought to sustain.
